Earlier this month I was invited to get a sneak peek at the new NARS holiday beauty collection launch inspired by surrealist photographer, Man Ray. Senior artist, Julia Sohn was in town to share some tips and live demos inside the NARS store at The Forum Shops at Caesars.
The store was packed with fellow beauty bloggers awaiting to learn more about the new collection which new shades of lip gloss, eye shadow, lipstick, and blush and a gorgeous gold highlighter – perfect to wear with any New Year’s Eve outfit.
The other products depicted in the pictures below, the Nars nail color in Amarapura and the satin lip pencil in Luxembourg (the perfect blue-based red) were gifted. A big THANK YOU to Christie Moeller for the invite to this exclusive event. Can’t wait to wear my new NARS products on New Year’s Eve!
You must take a second from your Memorial Day Weekend shopping and BBQs for this!
Now until 5.31, enter to win a luxurious getaway in NYC sponsored by L’Occitane. One lucky winner, chosen the first week of June will receive round trip airfare for two, a two-night stay the Gansevoort hotel (one of my faves!) and a $500 L’Occitane shopping spree.
All you have to do is sign up at this link, entering your name and email address.
Good luck! In the meantime, have a fun and safe Memorial Day Weekend 🙂
Summer is not yet over and I recently learned that there are many more factors that contribute to the health of our skin other than climate. Surprisingly, zip code is one of them.
Recently, Daily Glow analyzed the 55 biggest cities in the U.S. and presented research on the best and worst locations for our skin, taking into account dermatologists per capita, skin cancer rates and climate data. Sin City doesn’t rank high when it comes to education and obesity but I never stopped to think about where it ranks in relation to the health of our skin. According to Daily Glow, Vegas is the worst city for our skin.
When I moved here my skin took a beating and I attributed it to it getting used to the different environment. While I knew I had to protect my skin against the desert sun, I never thought about how elevation and the large population of smokers could negatively affect my skin. The ambient scenting inside all the casinos really does its job.
See where your city ranks and for specific research information on your city, check out the interactive slideshow.
This research really opened my eyes. Now I will be much more aware of the steps I need to take on a daily basis – hydrate, moisturize and protect. I’m not losing hope and in the meantime, I’ll take solace in knowing that Las Vegas is still one of the best cities for shopping!
I was so excited to learn that Topshop is opening a store at the Fashion Show Mall next month to be exact! I’ve been lucky enough to visit the only other two stores in the U.S, the New York and Chicago locations. What’s even more exciting is that the Vegas store will also carry the Topshop makeup collection. Thank you dear Sir Philip Green.
Topshop’s PR team sent me samples of some of the collections’ most popular picks, from trend driven shades to coveted must-haves, I’m excited to give you a sneak peek. Believe me, you’re going to want more!
Topshop Nails, $10
Fast drying, extra long wear with lasting glossy wet look finish. I’m looking forward to wearing some of these bright and metallic shades poolside at Red Rock this summer!
Topshop Eye Crayon, $12
I am absolutely in love with Eye Crayon! It’s a chunky eye shadow pencil with glitter for shading, lining and defining eyes. I personally love it to add a little twist to smoky eyes, perfect for a night out at the Lady Silvia or 1 Oak.
Topshop Cheeks, $10
This is a lightweight cream to powder blush which melts into the skin leaving a luminous finish. Don’t fret, it’s brighter than it looks and spot on for spring.
Needless to say, the Topshop makeup tickled my fancy indeed. Make sure to stop by the store to see the entire collection once they officially open their doors in Sin City on March 8th!
Whether we know it or not, there are chemicals in everything we consume, from apples to microwavable popcorn. I recently read an article about 7 Foods You Should Never Eat referencing expert commentary from food scientists. Fortunately, I haven’t eaten any of the forbidden foods but that got me thinking how it applies to what I put on my face.
One of my friends in New York put me in touch with Marie Michele, founder of Juvance Cosmetics. Her experience spans many of the beauty industry’s most renowned brands such as Clinique, Chanel and Shisheido. Now Michele’s mission is to provide natural and therapeutic products and regimens to balance, enhance and renew the skin’s natural beauty. On my journey towards putting an end to my dry skin, I was excited to speak to this leading “skin scientist.”
I tried out the 4-step regimen Michele suggested after I gave her a rundown of my skin routine. Her overall analysis was that my skin was “eating” but not “drinking”. Here’s her custom recipe:
1. Purifying Gel
What It Does: Deeply cleanses, purifies pores and removes impurities.
Ingredients: Alpha and Beta-Hydroxy Acid, Aloe Vera Gel, Salicylic Acid, Lactid Acid, Vitamin B, Bromelain Extract and Papain Enzymes.
How I used it: Twice daily using gel cleanser and exfoliant.
2. Balancing Ginseng Softener
What It Does: Preps the skin for hydration while balancing, toning, refreshing and firming the skin.
Ingredients: Aloe Vera, Ginseng, Witch Hazel and Horse Chestnut Extracts.
How I used it: Applied with cotton ball after Purifying Gel.
3. Renewal Bamboo Scrub (Exfoliant)
What It Does: Gently removes dead skin cells, refines pores and stimulates cellular regeneration.
Ingredients: Ground Bamboo and Jojoba Beads, Chamomile Extract, Aloe Vera, Papaya Extract, Bromelain Extract and Papain Enzymes.
How I used it: Scrubbed gently in circular motion avoiding delicate eye area, twice a week.
4. Revitalizing Moisturizer
What It Does: Helps improve oxygenation, detoxifies and stimulates the skin. Helps refine pores, balance oil, soothes irritation, and slows the creation of new lines and wrinkles.
Ingredients: Aloe Vera Gel, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Sodium Hyaluronate.
How I used it: Twice a day.
The main ingredient not included in these products? Alcohol! Also the culprit for dry skin. So yes, this is rehab for my face. Granted, not all alcohol is created equal but after one week of use, I can see a difference in my skin. It’s smoother, my pores are smaller, no break outs and overall my skin just feels cleaner and moisturized. Michele’s line of Juvance Cosmetics can be found in beauty boutiques in the tri-state area and can also be purchased directly on the Juvance Cosmetics website. She’s currently working to become available in Whole Foods as well so make sure to look out for that! In the meantime, take a look at your skincare regimen and identify which ingredients you’re currently applying on your skin…you just might be in need of a skin detox. Share your thoughts below!
I have tried out countless amounts of mascaras, too many to name. That was up until I came across the new Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara, I was hooked! This mascara has AVEC Grow-Lash Complex , a formula that will make your lashes appear up to 80% longer (as detailed on the package label). I bought it and have been using it for about three months now and I could not be more pleased with the results. My eyelashes started to look fuller, longer, darker, and stronger within two weeks of using it. Now, with a bristle brush instead of the rubber brush it originally had, it gives great volume. It does not clump or leave any residue on your face. I have even fallen asleep with it on and still stayed on without a smudge. I would definitely recommend this mascara. You will be amazed at the “fuller” results you will get…just look at my BEFORE and AFTER!
Circa 2004-2005, I remember the day that I walked into Bendel’s on 5th Ave. and became mesmerized by all the glamorous beauty lines. It was different than the experience I got when I scoured the retail beauty departments. I also clearly remember a product line that was displayed in the center beauty aisle…it was Mally Roncal Beauty. Fast forward years later, I was mesmerized by Mally herself, this time when I saw her live on QVC. I had never tried her line before but couldn’t resist getting the “Share the Love” collection because it offered a great variety of Mally products. Here’s a brief roundup along with my beauty bit on each product:
Eye Amplifying Shadow Liner in Chestnut
I love the beautiful bronze shade but would recommend using it as a liner rather than eyeshadow because it truly is bulletproof which made the smudging a little challenging.
Starlight Automatic Waterproof Eyeliner in Deepest Brown
Although I lean more towards kohl eyeliner, the color of this one is beautiful and doesn’t run or smear like my usual eyeliner. I can also use this to line my inner rim to take my look from day to night.
(2) Volumizing Mascaras in Black
Wow, talk about sharing the love! This kit includes two full size Volumizing mascaras. The definition is amazing and it doesn’t clump!
24/7 Professional Illuminating Blush System
For those of you who know me well know that I’m a sucker for anything that makes me “glow!” This is how you apply: first apply the glow on the apples of the cheeks and then apply blush powder on top for a sun-kissed effect!
Poreless Perfection Skin Finisher
If you’re struggling with large pores, you should try this product. This finisher is perfect for the summer heat because it’s matte without being drying.
(2) Lip Magnifiers in Blush
Perhaps one of the best lip gloss + lipstick combinations I’ve ever tried. The colors are soft without being sheer and luminous without being sticky.
For those of you who are curious, adding the suffix -ista to the end of a word such as fashionista means one who follows a principle or philosophy. Mally’s loyal fans AKA “Mallynistas” understand the benefits of the technology in these products and now I do too. These smudge-proof, bulletproof and long-wearing products will definitely be in my summer makeup bag, ready to help me survive the scorching summer heat here in Vegas.
