Inside Avant Collective’s Showroom in NYC Featuring Latest Trends in Fashion & Accessories

Hello NYC! I was in town for some overdue family time and it also happened to be press day at Avant Collective on Wall Street. They represent some amazing fashion and jewelry designers such as Perla Formentini, VERDAD, Katie Gallagher and Juiet M. I had the chance to visit the showroom to check out some of the FW16 and SS17 collections.


Louis Verdad is a Mexican American designer who has worked with renowned celebrities such as Madonna and Cate Blanchett under his namesake RTW label and designed bespoke pieces for LA’s elite. VERDAD is his brand new line and also his first time showing in New York Fashion Week for SS17. My fave VERDAD piece was this gorgeous gold metallic leather jacket.


Katie Gallagher, the cult New York based womenswear designer debuted her third all black collection at New York Fashion Week for SS17 artfully mixing textiles with signature bodysuits, leggings and bomber jackets – all of which I’m loving now! These were two of my fave looks from her SS17 line.



HEMSMITH is minimalist fashion brand featuring unisex staples. This New York-based brand is debuting its second full season for SS17 reflecting an Asian and Scandinavian design influence. These two pieces from the HEMSMITH SS17 line are my faves! I love the sporty chic look and feel amazing on. I would rock these with metallic sneakers or heels!












Perla Formentini shoes are crafted in Marche, Italy, a place where Italian sophistication fuses with a luxe, minimalist aesthetic. They are luxury shoes at an accessible price point made for women by a team of women with families in the shoe business. These gorgeous feather heels “Farfalla Camel” are my favorite from her Spring/Summer 2107 collection. These gold metallic pumps – Felisa Platino – are also stunning!





The jewelry collections were also beautiful! Nouvel Heritage is a bespoke fine jewelry brand out of a family workshop in Paris. They have teamed up with Tina Craig for a FW16 capsule collection inspired by Art Deco, emojis and more – available at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and other fine retailers across the country.






Juliet M is a brand new fine jewelry brand that embraces a feminine and timeless aesthetic incorporating natural gemstones with delicate 14K designs. Each piece is handmade by a skilled team of jewelers in the Pacific Northwest and proceeds support a cause near to the founder’s heart- fighting violence against women. The Brave Collection – founder Jessica Hendricks Yee launched a jewelry collection with a bohemian aesthetic for a great cause – supporting fair trade artisans in Cambodia and empowering women worldwide to combat human trafficking. For FW/Holiday 2016, the brand has launched an elevated and more minimalistic Metal Collection.




Thank you to Avant Collective for the up close and personal look at all these gorgeous fashions and accessories. I’m loving all of these trends for this Fall and Winter and even for Spring/Summer 2017! The gorgeous golds and lace and my favorite colors such as sharkskin grays, airy blues and warm taupes. Interview: Welcome to “The Asylum,” the Latest Book by Simon Doonan

For many years, I worked on East 60th and Madison, a block away from Barneys NYC. I never had the opportunity to meet the retailer’s Creative Ambassador-At-Large, Simon Doonan until now…in Vegas. Touring the country to promote his latest book, The Asylum: A Collage of Couture Reminiscences…and Hysteria, I had the chance to sit down for a chat and champagne with the fashion phenom.

MBC: Your birthday is coming up, any special plans?

Simon: “I’m always out and about, I’m just looking forward to a nice dinner with the hubby, cozy, no hoopla.”

MBC: Welcome to Las Vegas! What are your thoughts about Sin City?

Simon: “I’ve been coming to Las Vegas since the 70’s, it’s so interesting to see its reinventions and transitions, what’s the new thing in Vegas.”

MBC: What are your top three cities for fashion?

Simon: “Fashion has become a global spectator sport, so I’d say – 1. Scranton, 2. Fresno, 3.Detroit”

MBC: Who are the hot UK designers at the moment?

Simon: “Christopher Kane and Erdem”

MBC: Which are the must-see collections in Barneys NYC now?

Simon: “For Women, it’s Sacai and for Menswear, I’d say its Dries Von Noten, Paul Smith and Thom Brown.”

MBC: You’ve said “when in doubt, ensure great lighting.” What are your thoughts on how makeup relates to fashion?

Simon: “Women can use makeup to make a personal expression, it’s an easy way to establish a signature look. Same goes with fashion.”

MBC: Your inspiration for “The Asylum” came from conversations with a friend that works at a mental health facility. Do you think everyone has a little crazy in them?

Simon: I hope so! Everyone needs a bit of neuroses in their lives.”

MBC: Last question, NY, LA or London?

Simon: New York City. Its a melting pot, you feel like you are a part of a big bustling city.

Target Launches NEW 3.1 Phillip Lim Collection

Fresh off New York Fashion Week and just in time for fall, we are graced with Target’s next designer partnership – 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target. The collection which launched yesterday, includes apparel, shoes, bags and travel accessories, for men and women on the go. It features more than 100 pieces ranging in price from $19.99 to $299.99 for apparel and $19.99 for $59.99 for accessories.

I  was told there were lines this morning at my local Target. I missed the lines but scored the last Large Carryall Tote with Gusset in Black ($54.99).

The Kimberly Hotel, a Gem in the Heart of New York City

On a recent trip to New York City, we had the pleasure of staying at the Kimberly Hotel, a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Manhattan.  It has recently made Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List 2013. I’ve always preferred boutique over large corporate chain hotels because I love to appreciate the beauty and character in the details. The details at the Kimberly hotel were all about European flair, lucky me.  The “Upstairs” rooftop was an amazing spot for an early morning breakfast with a view. Being as beauty obsessed as I am, I always check out the hotel’s bathroom products. I was delighted to see Neutrogena and Bath & Body Works products in this one. On our tour of the hotel, we learned that the owner named it after his daughter. We also learned that some celebrities that have stayed at the Kimberly Hotel include Jennifer Hudson, Lauren Dern and Mira Sorvino. I would definitely recommend the Kimberly Hotel to anyone who wants to be in the middle of all that NYC has to offer from Broadway to Central Park. Brit it On! Here’s a Sneak Peek of the UK’s Hottest Womenswear Brands

One of the perks of having a bi-coastal blog is being able to cover the latest fashion and beauty news from New York to LA to Las Vegas and beyond. So when I was recently invited to join four of London’s most renowned womenswear fashion brands at Bryant Park Hotel in NYC, I could not miss it. As some of you know, I have a special place in my heart for European fashion as I have traveled to London, Paris and Wales, which is where my boyfriend is from.

This was Arcadia Group’s first ever press day outside of Great Britain. They featured Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge and Wallis who showcased clothing, shoes, handbags and jewelry from their Autumn/Winter 2013 collections as well as some pieces from their current summer collections.

TLC’s What Not to Wear’s Finale Party Comes to Vegas: An Exclusive Beauty Q&A with Carmindy

TLC’s What Not to Wear is most likely the pioneer in makeover/makeunder shows. For the last ten years, the fashion and beauty squad of Clinton Kelly, Stacy London, Carmindy and most recently, Ted Gibson have been changing the lives of women across the country.  I’ve been a fan of the show since its debut so when I had the chance to work with the show when I worked in NYC, I was beyond excited. Fast forward more than five years later, the show comes to a finale, with a celebration in Las Vegas, lucky me…again!

I got to experience this history-making night on Monday and had a chance to catch up with one of my favorite beauty gurus, Carmindy, right before the celebration. And after this juicy sneak peek of what’s to come, I’m suddenly not so sad.


My Beauty Confessions: Your philosophy is all about celebrating true beauty and individual uniqueness. With all the makeovers you’ve done over the years on WNTW, what would you say is the biggest true beauty quality that women overlook or ignore?

Carmindy: Their right to pamper themselves and embrace their natural beauty. So many women after having children, working full-time, having a husband or ever going through a tough time, forget their most beautiful and ancient right as a woman which is to care for themselves without feeling guilt and realizing the true unique beauty they possess.

MBC: Your signature beauty technique, “Carmindizing,“ is a makeup tip that works on all women, is there a Carmindizing 2.0 or a second favorite tip or technique?

Carmindy: Absolutely! When applying liquid foundation or BB/CC Creams always use a non-latex sponge to blend on the product for seamless results and cover the eyelids and under the lower lash line. This will act like a lid primer keeping makeup in place all day.

MBC: You love to travel, what are your in-flight beauty must-haves?

Carmindy: Creme De La Mer for moisturizing my skin, Fresh Rose Sugar Lip Treatment for supple lips with a hint of tint, Blinc Amplified Mascara for natural looking dark lashes that will never smudge or budge, Fresh Satin Luster Palette to Carmindize the face and cream blush in pink for a flush that never looks dry.

MBC: What’s next or the latest with your partnership with Sally Hansen?

Carmindy: I have discontinued my line with Sally Hansen to make way for Carmindy & Co my new line of amazing cosmetics and skincare coming in January 2014! I’m also working on my 4th book called Bloom- A Girls Guide To Growing Up Gorgeous published by Penguin Books due to launch in summer 2014.

MBC: You launched your own beauty app not too long ago, how is it going, what’s the feedback? (I downloaded my avatar:))

Carmindy: It was one of the first of its kind and I love it. I wanted it to help women find a quick easy way to choose the right colors for their unique skin tone and also be able to learn how to apply the most basic looks that work on all women and all ages. I want to constantly improve on it so we have big plans for next year to make it more interactive and update everything with new technology.

MBC: TV show, books, beauty app…what’s next for you? What’s in the pipeline?

Carmindy: Carmindy & Co is going to be HUGE and international. Look out for the most amazing makeup and skincare then stay on the lookout as I Carmindize the world with neutracosmetics, haircare, jewelry, bags and fashion!

MBC: You’re in Vegas to film your last WNTW episode, how are you feeling? What was the sentiment on set?

Carmindy: I’m staying positive but I know it will be a very emotional time. This has been an amazing 10 year journey and I know it will be very hard to say goodbye. I’m happy we are doing it in celebration and going out with a bang not just fading away!

MBC: What are your thoughts on “Vegas” beauty & fashion?

Carmindy: It is really all over the map! There are very savvy and beautiful women as well as the other side of the spectrum. I’m sure with all the tourists there will plenty of people I will want to make UNDER haha!

MBC: If you didn’t pursue beauty, what would you be doing today?

Carmindy: Adventurer! Is that a job? LOL!
