Summer Hair, Don’t Care

I’m still not ready to say bye to summer! It’s been a great summer for my hair because I finally decided to add some partial blonde balayage highlights to my natural dark brown hair. My colorist gave me the exact shade of beige blonde I wanted. And since it’s summer, I decided to try out the Hot Tools Ceramic Tourmaline Deep Waver curling iron for those beachy, voluminous locks. I absolutely love the look, the Deep Waver gives my hair amazing body and natural looking waves. I know I need to take special care of my highlighted hair and protect it from styling tools, the sun, chlorine water, etc. I recently used ColorProof Evolved Color Care, SignatureBlonde Violet Shampoo and Conditioner to give me heat protection while canceling out any brassy and yellow tones.

Although we are in mid August, think I’m going to keep this look for fall! What are the hair trends you’re looking forward to this autumn?

Drybar Opens its Doors in Las Vegas!

I’m very particular when it comes to blow dry bars. Perhaps its because I’ve never really been wowed by any blowouts here in Las Vegas. The few times I visited some blow dry bars here I was always told that my hair was too heavy or too thick for a blow out. Maybe it was an excuse to quickly blow dry my hair and curl with an iron – not the same.

I finally saw and felt the difference at the opening of Drybar located inside the Miracle Mile Shops in Planet Hollywood. As soon as I stepped foot inside the 3,000 square foot space (their largest to date), I felt the vibe and energy provided by a live DJ and full bar.

My stylist, Krista K. did a fabulous job with shampooing my hair and giving me the “Dirty Martini” blow out. While sipping my Cosmo, Krista told me I had perfect hair for a blowout. She used the award-winning Triple Sec 3-in-1, I loved it so much, I bought some to take home with me.

I also had the pleasure to meet Drybar founder, Alli Webb whose creativity and vision was evident in every detail of the space. Her background as a professional hair stylist is what sets Drybar apart from the rest. Her vision is to focus on the one thing they do well – blowouts. She is a true inspiration for all females.

I will definitely go back to Drybar to try out the other blowouts! For more information on Drybar follow them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube.

Finding the Right Shampoo For Your Hair Type

I’ve had a lifelong battle with shampoo. After many years of dying and perming my hair, I still struggle with finding that perfect shampoo now that my hair is 100% in its natural state, no color, no chemicals. So what I look for in a shampoo now is much different than what I looked for in a shampoo when I was highlighting and spiral perming my tresses in my teen and college years.

I tested out numerous shampoos, ones that were popular and even ones that were hard to find. Then, there came a time when I wanted to simplify my hair routine. No more perms, no more highlights, just my hair in its purest state. Now, all I look for in a shampoo is simple – a good cleanse that leaves my hair with volume. That’s not asking for too much is it?

So when I was recently offered to review to “volumizing” shampoos, I said yes. I recently tried out the NEW Nexxus Hydra-Light Weightless Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner.

ULTA Beauty’s Cut-a-thon Back in Vegas

On Sunday, THE SALON in the ULTA Beauty stores in Las Vegas hosted a Cut-A-Thon event to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.  This was my second year making the line and participating. For a minimum suggested donation my request was…long bangs please. One hundred percent of Cut-A-Thon proceeds will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.

In 2012, the salons in ULTA Beauty stores across the country performed more than 23,000 haircuts during the Cut-A-Thon. With more than 550 salons, ULTA Beauty aims to reach that number again.

Q & A with Celebrity Hairstylist, Ken Paves as He Introduces His New Book, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL

In his new book YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, celebrity hairstylist, Ken Paves talks about his work with women of all ages, ethnicities, shapes, and sizes and emphasizes how every woman is beautiful in her own way.  He shares heartfelt advice and easy beauty tips for the average busy woman, from insider hair-care hints and the top products for different hair types, to time-saving styling tips and quick fixes in an emergency.

Dubbed the “hottest hairdresser in Hollywood,” Ken Paves has created award-winning styles for celebrities such as Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, and Victoria Beckham, who says, “Ken has the most amazing gift to make women feel beautiful inside and out.”  His work has appeared in such magazines as Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, O The Oprah Magazine, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, GQ, and In Style.

Here’s my Q&A with Mr. Paves.

ken book

MBC: Thank you for debunking so many beauty myths! Can you explain this one? When you wash your hair with (clarifying) shampoo and it squeaks – is it because it’s clean or stripped?

Ken: Pretty much stripped. I am not a huge fan of clarifying shampoo, except in very specific (excessive) situations. When your hair squeaks it is so clean that there are no natural oils to soften and buffer that squeaky sound. It’s like finger nails on a chalk board to me. Water alone is an amazing emulsifier….water alone has eroded beaches and mountains, it can break down your natural oils and a little styling product…add in a “regular” shampoo and your good. Quiet hair is good!!!

MBC: You’ve accomplished so much, work, philanthropy, etc.  what’s next?

Ken: Thank you for recognizing that. I hope to spread the voice of my book You Are Beautiful and help empower women around the world. I am working on some new products and projects that will all speak the same voice and ultimately allow me to give back even more!

MBC: You’ve worked with numerous celebrities, are there any ones in particular that you would like to work with but haven’t had a chance to yet?

Ken: I have actually worked with everyone I had ever hoped for. Lady Ga Ga was the artist I had hoped to work with, and I had the honor of working with her. I think she is genius and one of the most inspiring artist I have ever had the pleasure of working with.  She takes “theatre” and brings it to life! I still love waiting to see what she is going to do next!

MBC: Any plans for another salon in Las Vegas?

Ken: Not at the moment, but I do love Vegas!

MBC: Any plans for your own beauty talk show?

Ken: I would love that, let’s put it out in the universe!!

Here’s to hoping I catch Ken next time he comes to Vegas! In the meantime, you can follow him on his wonderful journey on Facebook and Twitter!

Backstage Beauty at NY Fashion Week: Batiste Dry Shampoo Sponsors Tara Subkoff / Imitation of Christ Show

As a beauty blogger, I’m always interested in knowing what the upcoming beauty trends will be.  Some fashion trends die, some become staples. Same goes for beauty trends. One trend that is definitely a beauty must-have all year long is Batiste Dry Shampoo.

It’s Fashion Week in New York! As seen backstage at the Tara Subkoff/Imitation of Christ show, stylist David Cruz and his team sprayed Batiste on the models’ hair to give volume and oomph to every style.

I was recently sent a sample of Batiste Dry Shampoo in Blush which smells flowery yet it doesn’t overpower my perfume.  It was perfect timing because it’s been a hot and humid summer here in Vegas.  What I like most about this product is that it has multiple benefits.  It refreshes, cleans and extends the time between washes which is good for your hair.  Mostly, I love it because it gives me that fabulous second-day hair look!

Check out more Batiste behind-the-scenes at @MBFashionWeek, on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
