I can’t believe style with a cause turns three this year. They are launching this year’s event with their first-ever collection! In collaboration with Spoonflower, they created an exclusive fabric which was then given to five designers across the country including Project Runway’s Joshua J. Christensen and Project Runway All Star, Carlos Casanova, Las Vegas’ own, Jennifer Henry of Flock Flock Flock, Christina Rudigier and this year’s Fashion Forward Winner, Ilian Angulo. All of the designers will create one-of-a kind pieces which will be featured on the Fashion Show runway and auctioned at the end of the event benefitting Opportunity Village. This anticipated evening filled with fall fashion presented by Saks Fifth Avenue and beauty transformations takes place on Thursday, September 17 from 5:30pm – 8:30pm. Tickets are still available here.
Only in LA can you meet your favorite bloggers in one location all in one day. In addition, I had the opportunity to learn how these entrepreneurial women got their start and how they’ve turned blogging into a business. The Create + Cultivate experience was epic, with photo opportunities everywhere, pop-up shops and a beauty bar courtesy of Glamsquad.
Overall, what I took away from the panel-packed event was that you have to treat your blog as a business, be passionate and understand that we (bloggers) are all growing together. Learning how to evolve your blog was also another very interesting panel topic. Many bloggers in attendance were considering larger collaborations such as capsule collections for fashion brands. Understanding analytics was also a huge focus area as were conversations about how to maintain authenticity. Yes, there was even a discussion about how to handle haters on social media. I took so much from understanding how these bloggers came to be where they are now, their tipping points, their journeys – all very motivational!
Here are some inspirational highlights from Leslie Blodgett, founder of Bare Escentuals:
Leslie is celebrating her 20-year anniversary this year and she shared her story with us. Her philosophy has always been and will continue to be connecting with women. Leslie is inspired by reading books, new and old, doing things that make her nervous like public speaking. Although I would never expect it, she said she meditated the night before because she was anxious about speaking at the event. Overall, her mantra is do things with intention. Leslie also has a very interesting way of looking at social media platforms. She looks at Facebook like her living room, Twitter as a nightclub and Instagram as a bit of both, so oversharers out there, take note!
All in all, Create + Cultivate was an reenergizing experience for me. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event.
P.S. I also got the chance to Uber it to the airport! As a first-timer, I was pleased with the efficiency, ease and overall experience. Vegas needs Uber!
Free false eyelash application? Um…yeah! I am constantly trying to perfect my eyelash expertise so when I was invited to check out the new Eylure collection by Katy Perry, I made sure to book some time on my weekend calendar to stop by my local Kohl’s store.
The story behind this collection is that Katy’s makeup artist used these on her during her tour and she would stack two or three pairs of lashes to achieve the on-stage look Katy loved. Katy Perry became a huge fan of the false eyelashes that she approached the brand to collaborate, thus the Katy Perry Collection was born.
Top three reasons I like these false eyelashes:
- They are 100% human hair therefore they are ultra light, I don’t feel them nor do they weigh my lids down
- They are reusable unlike many that are one-time use only
- Great range of styles, from natural to costume
My favorite ones so far are Feline Fierce (pictured below) which are the one of the samples that were provided to me by the brand’s PR rep . Oh and here’s an insider tidbit, they will be launching ones with invisible bands soon! Follow Eylure USA on Facebook and Twitter.
Simon G. Jewelry kicked off their annual summer soiree in Las Vegas and this past Saturday at TAO in the Venetian. Celebrating 31 years of style and design, Mr. Simon Ghanimian, the patriarch and founder of Simon G. Jewelry was nice enough to chat with us about this year’s Organic Allure and Passion Collections. He also said that this year’s bridal trend is rose gold. Newlyweds Katrina Bowden and Ben Jorgenson were joined by Paula Abdul, Jenny McCarthy, Mario & Courtney Lopez, Gilles & Carole Marini, Audrina Patridge, Catt Sadler, Holly Madison, Lala Anthony, Peta Murgatroyd and more.
The red carpet was celebrity-studded! Here are some of the starlets who greeted us wearing their favorite Simon G. pieces.
TLC’s What Not to Wear is most likely the pioneer in makeover/makeunder shows. For the last ten years, the fashion and beauty squad of Clinton Kelly, Stacy London, Carmindy and most recently, Ted Gibson have been changing the lives of women across the country. I’ve been a fan of the show since its debut so when I had the chance to work with the show when I worked in NYC, I was beyond excited. Fast forward more than five years later, the show comes to a finale, with a celebration in Las Vegas, lucky me…again!
I got to experience this history-making night on Monday and had a chance to catch up with one of my favorite beauty gurus, Carmindy, right before the celebration. And after this juicy sneak peek of what’s to come, I’m suddenly not so sad.
My Beauty Confessions: Your philosophy is all about celebrating true beauty and individual uniqueness. With all the makeovers you’ve done over the years on WNTW, what would you say is the biggest true beauty quality that women overlook or ignore?
Carmindy: Their right to pamper themselves and embrace their natural beauty. So many women after having children, working full-time, having a husband or ever going through a tough time, forget their most beautiful and ancient right as a woman which is to care for themselves without feeling guilt and realizing the true unique beauty they possess.
MBC: Your signature beauty technique, “Carmindizing,“ is a makeup tip that works on all women, is there a Carmindizing 2.0 or a second favorite tip or technique?
Carmindy: Absolutely! When applying liquid foundation or BB/CC Creams always use a non-latex sponge to blend on the product for seamless results and cover the eyelids and under the lower lash line. This will act like a lid primer keeping makeup in place all day.
MBC: You love to travel, what are your in-flight beauty must-haves?
Carmindy: Creme De La Mer for moisturizing my skin, Fresh Rose Sugar Lip Treatment for supple lips with a hint of tint, Blinc Amplified Mascara for natural looking dark lashes that will never smudge or budge, Fresh Satin Luster Palette to Carmindize the face and cream blush in pink for a flush that never looks dry.
MBC: What’s next or the latest with your partnership with Sally Hansen?
Carmindy: I have discontinued my line with Sally Hansen to make way for Carmindy & Co my new line of amazing cosmetics and skincare coming in January 2014! I’m also working on my 4th book called Bloom- A Girls Guide To Growing Up Gorgeous published by Penguin Books due to launch in summer 2014.
MBC: You launched your own beauty app not too long ago, how is it going, what’s the feedback? (I downloaded my avatar:))
Carmindy: It was one of the first of its kind and I love it. I wanted it to help women find a quick easy way to choose the right colors for their unique skin tone and also be able to learn how to apply the most basic looks that work on all women and all ages. I want to constantly improve on it so we have big plans for next year to make it more interactive and update everything with new technology.
MBC: TV show, books, beauty app…what’s next for you? What’s in the pipeline?
Carmindy: Carmindy & Co is going to be HUGE and international. Look out for the most amazing makeup and skincare then stay on the lookout as I Carmindize the world with neutracosmetics, haircare, jewelry, bags and fashion!
MBC: You’re in Vegas to film your last WNTW episode, how are you feeling? What was the sentiment on set?
Carmindy: I’m staying positive but I know it will be a very emotional time. This has been an amazing 10 year journey and I know it will be very hard to say goodbye. I’m happy we are doing it in celebration and going out with a bang not just fading away!
MBC: What are your thoughts on “Vegas” beauty & fashion?
Carmindy: It is really all over the map! There are very savvy and beautiful women as well as the other side of the spectrum. I’m sure with all the tourists there will plenty of people I will want to make UNDER haha!
MBC: If you didn’t pursue beauty, what would you be doing today?
Carmindy: Adventurer! Is that a job? LOL!
And what an adventure it is! Ladies, keep your eyes open for Carmindy & Co coming in 2014! In the meantime, download Carmindy’s app for exclusive how-to videos and tips, follow Carmindy on Facebook and Twitter and continue to tune in to TLC’s last and most epic season of What Not to Wear!
