I’ve had the pleasure of living and working in three of the most fabulous cities in the world, NYC, Chicago and now Las Vegas.
The tri-state area is my home, the place where I grew up, where I frequented the Jersey Shore as a teen, where I went to college, received my Masters degree and the place where I kickstarted my career. When I made the leap into NYC as a Jersey commuter, it was the beginning of a decade filled with memorable experiences, similar to those you read about in books and see in movies. I had the chance to ride in helicopters with magazine editors, walk (and work) the red carpet at various celebrity-studded events and mainly work alongside some of the most talented individuals I have ever met. NYC gave me the opportunity to meet extraordinary people such as Vincent Longo (who gave me a last-minute makeup retouch), Carson Kressley (who made me laugh to tears in the Green Room), fashion designer, Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss (who’s even more beautiful in person). However, I also got to meet many wonderful people whose amazing work was done behind-the-scenes….Donna Karan’s makeup artist and now good friend, Berta Camal, dentist to the stars turned artist, Dr. Jeffrey Golub-Evans and red carpet commentator turned author, Tom Julian. New York City will always have a special place in my heart.
When I moved to Chicago, I had the opportunity to live one block from Michigan Ave. and two blocks from Oak Street Beach. In hindsight, that could’ve been dangerous but it was before the recession and I was at the top of my career. I was in awe at the sight of beautiful sky scrapers behind me as I sat on the sand looking towards the Great Lakes. The beauty of this city captivated me every day, each time I walked out of my apartment. The tree and flower-lined streets in the spring, the street markets and art fairs in the summers and the cold winter nights. Chicago gave me an appreciation of the little marvels that surrounded me every day, something I took for granted when I was in New York.
Five years ago, I moved to Las Vegas…only months prior to what was going to be the longest economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s, I had chosen to make the gutsy move to Sin City, the city, who in previous years, had grown so fast and had prospered so quickly, but was also going to be the hardest hit in the entire nation. Nevertheless, Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, gave me the perfect balance between work and life.
While Las Vegas can’t claim it has the cultural diversity of NYC or the influential architecture of Chicago, it does have something all its own. Want to marvel at enormity? Las Vegas is the city with the largest hotel, casino and resort properties in the world! There are seven Cirque du Soleil shows in a 2.5-mile radius, 15 of the 20 biggest hotels in the world and six Louis Vuitton stores within two miles. And who doesn’t come to Vegas for vacation or work? I get the pleasure of meeting up with old friends and colleagues at least once a month.
Here’s to whatever happens next! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my blog!
