Summer Beauty Tips: Do’s and Don’ts

After surviving three sweltering Vegas summers, I recently experienced  a “day” club for the first time. I must say I am not a fan. I prefer the beach. However, the people-watching at the day club was unparalleled. Aside from the five-inch stilettos and outlandish (or lack thereof) swimwear, I was mostly intrigued by the brazen beauty blunders. I understand that Las Vegas is the place where many come to let go of their inhibitions, but don’t let your beauty routine suffer the consequences, it doesn’t look good in pictures.

Here are some essential summer beauty tips to consider when going from the “day” club to the “night” club.

Trade in the false eyelashes for waterproof mascara. With water (and other things) splashing everywhere, the last thing you want is a loose eyelash. Save them for the nightclub. Instead use a waterproof mascara that gives your lashes volume such as Diorshow Waterproof Mascara($25) or Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Waterproof Mascara (prices vary).

Hold off on the cakey concealer and heavy makeup.  Partying in the heat and sun for hours on end isn’t exactly the ideal environment for full-on makeup. Forego the concealer for tinted moisturizer with SPF. I love  Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Tinted Moisturizer ($36) which has an SPF 20.  Another great option is Sephora’s Perfecting Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 ($21). Both will keep you looking dewy instead of cakey. Add some lip gloss and a dab of cream blush, that’s all you need!

Behold the body glitter. Yes, I saw some ladies sparkling in the sun.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a radiant, healthy, shimmery glow but there’s a difference between sheen and actual glitter.  Save the glitter for the nail polish. I love Nars body glow ($59) for the chocolaty sheen that compliments a summer tan and smells like a Hawaiian island. Or try Victoria’s Secret Luminous Body Cream ($12).

Hope you’re all enjoying your summer! Embrace the sun. Tan responsibly.
